About Group

Biometrology Group establishes bio-standards and develops measurement technologies for biomaterials constituting living organisms.
We focus on the measurements and analyses of various biomaterials such as nucleic acids (DNA, RNA), proteins, cells, microorganisms, viruses, and bio-particles. We pioneer top-tier measurement methods for international measurement standards, develop analytical methods for diverse life science research, and conduct research for international equivalence. Our goal is to support and improve the accuracy and reliability of measurements in molecular genetic testing, infectious disease diagnosis, and quality control of bio-pharmaceuticals, ultimately enhancing the national quality of life.

Current R&D Projects

  • 1 Nucleic acid (DNA, RNA) metrology
  • 2 Protein metrology and proteme analysis
  • 3 Measurements and analyses of cells, microorganisms, viruses, and bio-particles
  • 4 Development of primary measurement methods and reference materials for biomaterials

Recent R&D Highlights

  • Development of direct counting methods and CRMs for specific DNA/RNA
  • Development of DNA reference materials within the medium reproducing the characteristics of actual prenatal examination samples and being listed in JCTLM
  • Development of absolute quantification technology for methylated DNA and pilot of international comparisons
  • Development of reference materials for infectious disease diagnosis, including SARS-CoV-2
