KRISS Hosts Press Tour for International Media

On Thursday, October 24, the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) and an international media delegation visited KRISS. Recently, the Korean government identified AI and semiconductors, advanced biotechnology, and quantum science and technology as the "three game-changing technologies" that could shape the future and committed to concentrated investment in these areas. This visit showcased KRISS's research achievements in the field of quantum technology, with a total of 20 attendees, including four representatives from MSIT and eight members of the international press.

Dr. Choi Jae Hyuk, Director of the Quantum Technology Institute, delivered a presentation highlighting KRISS's capabilities in quantum technology research, its key R&D achievements, and the institute's future vision. He emphasized the high applicability of KRISS's various quantum research projects and outcomes, noting that these efforts provide a solid foundation for Korea to lead global quantum technology. He further expressed KRISS's commitment to establishing itself as a central hub in the quantum technology ecosystem.
Following the presentation, the international media delegation engaged in a lively Q&A session. Topics included the future vision offered by quantum computing, its contributions to improving human life, Korea and KRISS's strengths in the quantum field, and the scalability and economic value of quantum technology.

Dr. Choi Jae Hyuk highlighted KRISS’s exceptional research capabilities in the quantum field during his address. He stated, "Quantum technology will revolutionize various fields, including information and communication, healthcare, and artificial intelligence, significantly contributing to national competitiveness." He also stressed, "Securing foundational technologies for the quantum industry requires continuous efforts from researchers, supported by robust national policies." Notably, Dr. Choi pointed out the urgency of addressing the shortage of skilled personnel, stating, "Systematic support for quantum workforce development is critically needed at this golden time for the quantum industry."

Following the presentation, the international media delegation participated in a lab tour of KRISS’s quantum research facilities. The tour included visits to the Superconducting Quantum Computing Lab, the Atomic Quantum Sensor Lab, the Neutral Atom Quantum Computer Lab, and the Atomic Clock Lab. Delegates showed keen interest, actively engaging with researchers and asking numerous questions during the tour.
The international media representatives and the MSIT spokesperson’s office expressed their gratitude for KRISS’s thorough preparations and the unwavering support of its researchers. Through this press tour, KRISS successfully showcased its position as Korea’s leading quantum technology research institution, further promoting the nation’s quantum research achievements on the global stage.
