The Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS, President Ho Seong Lee) hosted the "6G Grand Summit 2024" in collaboration with LG Electronics (CEO William Cho) and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST, President Kwang Hyung Lee) on October 11th at the Sejong Hall of the KRISS.
The 6G Grand Summit is an event that gathers experts from academia, industry, and research institutions, both domestic and international, to discuss the current state of research and development in the field of 6G. It aims to set future directions by addressing key technological goals, promising innovations, and applications or service prospects. Initiated in 2022, this year marks the third iteration of the summit.

The theme of this year’s event was "6G Convergence and Radio Technologies." The summit was structured into three main parts: a keynote session, a technical symposium, and an exhibition.
The keynote session featured presentations from leading experts:
- Prof. Kwangyun Wohn, Emeritus Professor at the KAIST Graduate School of Culture Technology (GSCT), presented "Hopes and Expectations: 6G as the Cultural Platform."
- Prof. Tian H. Loh from the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in the UK delivered an "Overview of Research Activities on 5G and 6G Communications at the UK NPL."
- Dr. Eng Wei Koo, Co-Chair of the O-RAN Alliance, discussed "O-RAN based 6G Network Evolution."

The technical symposium brought together prominent figures from academia and industry to discuss key 6G technologies. Participants included:
- Prof. Christos Masouros (University College London, UK)
- Dr. Qiu Jing (Huawei)
- Prof./Dr. Byoung-Sun Lee (ETRI)
- Dr. Sang Rim Lee (LG Electronics)
- Dr. Jae-Yong Kwon (KRISS)
- Prof. Byung-Wook Min (Yonsei University)
- Dr. Sunghyun Kim (KT)
- Prof. Junil Choi and Ju Yong Lee (KAIST)
These experts delved into emerging and core 6G technologies such as mobile communication, sensing, and the convergence of artificial intelligence (AI) with satellite systems. They also discussed advancements aimed at expanding wireless coverage and increasing capacity, including extreme massive MIMO, advanced duplex systems, and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS).
