KRISS Attends the APMP GA 2023

- First Face-to-Face Meeting in Four Years Since Pandemic -

The KRISS delegation, led by Dr. Hyun-min Park, attended the APMP GA 2023 held in Shenzhen, China from November 27th to December 3rd. Dr. Hyun-min Park, serving as the APMP Chairperson, presided over key meetings such as the GA and EC* meeting.

At this year's assembly, discussions included ▲the election of new EC members and TC* /FG** Chairs, ▲the report on APMP financial status, ▲the incorporation of APMP, and ▲the venues for the next Mid-year Meeting and GA. Notably, Dr. Kihwan Choi, the head of the Organic Metrology Group, was elected as the next FSFG*** Chair. Additionally, the venues for upcoming Mid-year Meetings were confirmed for Philippines (2024) and Taiwan (2025), while the GA will be held in New Zealand (2026) and Singapore (2027). The 2024 and 2025 GA will be hosted in India and South Korea, respectively.

Furthermore, a symposium held on December 1st, attracted many experts and dignitaries such as the President of CIPM, the Director of BIPM, and the Mayor of Shenzhen, covered presentations on ‘Grand Vision for 2030+: Advancing Metrology in Addressing Global Challenges.’ At the APMP Symposium, Dr. Hyun-min Park delivered an opening speech addressing ▲the role of APMP in the development of measurement standards, ▲the role of measurement standards in national economic development and improving quality of life, and ▲the role of measurement standards for future vision.

Additionally, during the NMI Directors’ Workshop on 'Strategies for Sustainable Measurement and Standards,' Dr. Hyun-min Park gave a presentation not only on the changing demands for measurement standards in the 21st century, indicated in the CIPM Strategy Report and resolutions of the 27th CGPM, but also on the role of NMIs* in responding to these changes. In his presentation, he demonstrated KRISS Vision 2035, newly established by the changing demands for measurement standards, and the frameworks as well as analytical techniques for the vision to highlight NMIs’ proactive changes.

The APMP GA 2023 marked the first face-to-face meeting for all representatives in four years since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. This event also holds great significance as it was the first GA presided over by Dr. Hyun-min Park. KRISS plans to continue leading the global measurement standards community and aims at expanding its role by successfully hosting the APMP GA 2025 in Korea.
