Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science(KRISS) President Hyun-Min Park was elected as chairperson at the 37th Asia Pacific Metrology Programme(APMP) General Assembly(GA). President Park will serve as chairperson for three years starting November 2022.

The Asia Pacific Metrology Programme(APMP) is a regional metrology organization established in 1977 to promote international cooperation in the field of measurement science in the Asia Pacific region. Korea joined the organization in 1980. As of November 2021, 45 institutions from 27 countries are full members.

The APMP chairperson presides over the APMP GA  held annually and represents the APMP at the Joint Committee of the Regional Metrology Organizations and the BIPM(Bureau International des Poids et Mesures)(JCRB) held biannually.

This is the third time that a Korean person has been elected APMP chairperson after the election of KRISS President Kwang Hwa Chung in 2007. The role of Korea as a leader in the global cooperation in measurement standards for the Asia Pacific region is expected to be further strengthened.

With this appointment of APMP chairperson, KRISS plans to expand Korea's role and contribution to measurement standards issues in the Asia Pacific region and further solidify balanced cooperation with developed and developing countries.
