KRISS Holds Opening Ceremony for the New CRM Storage Facility
On March 4, KRISS held an opening ceremony for its Certified Reference Materials (CRM*) storage facility at the CRM Lab.
The opening of the new CRM facility is expected to contribute to the safe storage and efficient supply of national measurement standards.

The ceremony began with opening remarks by Dr. Kyoung-seok Lee, head of the Inorganic Metrology Group, followed by a briefing by Dr. Ki-Hwan Choi, head of the Organic Metrology Group. The congratulatory speech was given by Dr. Hyun-Min Park, President of KRISS.
KRISS is known for developing world-class CRMs in terms of performance and quality, producing and supplying 160 different types or 5,200 in number.
Previously, the institute expanded efforts in CRM production and supply to meet the growing demand in various fields, but faced constraints due to the lack of a proper storage facility.
The CRM storage facility is essential for stable quality management, especially during the review of CRMs by overseas experts, and also for active export to other countries.

The CRM storage facility, with a total floor area of 361.25 m2, opened in a basement connected to the CRM Lab. The construction period was about eight months.
To prevent the spread of fires, the facility is equipped with fire shutters, separate outdoor emergency stairs, and sprinklers. It is large enough to hold more than 1,000 types of CRMs.

An interesting point to note is that different storage conditions are needed depending on CRM types and properties. The facility comprises one cooling room (4°C) and two ultra-low temperature freezing rooms. The ultra-low temperature freezing rooms store CRMs at a temperature of –70°C.
▲ Freezer-rated clothing and boots must be worn to enter the –70 °C room.
This new CRM storage facility will pave the way for the development of various strategic CRMs that are in demand.
