The biggest internal change at KRISS this year was its extensive reorganization. This restructuring was imperative in order to redefine the role of research groups in response to the rapidly changing circumstances of the world, and to realize “Standard-driven Growth” to prepare for the next 50 years. The existing research center-based units individually conducted research, but the reorganization divided around 360 researchers into more than 70 team units with around five members each to conduct team-based research.
This helps researchers enhance the mission-oriented research, making clearer goal-setting and performances. KRISS has not only changed its hardware by restructuring, but also changed its software at the same time, including the change of evaluation systems and the creation of collaborative culture. Personnel evaluation system was shifted to team performance from individual performance. In addition, the average age of team leaders has been significantly lowered than before in order to promote energy and vitality.
Dr. Park, President of KRISS, who led this reorganization, has been trying to share his management philosophy with KRISS members as much as possible, and reflect their voices. KRISS will attempt a soft landing of a team-based system through continuous improvement and innovation. Following this reorganization, KRISS expects to create an environment in which researchers can immerse themselves only in research, and make the mission-oriented, even world-leading, performances.
