KRISS and LGC in the UK Sign MOU
- Strengthen Cooperation in the fields of Chemistry and Biotechnology -
On February 19, KRISS and LGC Limited (hereafter referred to as "LGC") renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Annex documents.
Founded in 1842 as a designated institute (DI) in the UK, LGC was established to conduct measurement standards research in the fields of chemistry and biotechnology (excluding gas analysis). In 1996, LGC was privatized and renamed from The Laboratory of the Government Chemist to LGC.
The two institutions first signed an MOU in September 2008, and in August 2013, the KRISS president and delegation visited LGC to renew the MOU for the first time. Through this second renewal, both institutions agreed to continue their research collaboration in areas such as organic, inorganic, and biotechnology, personnel exchange, international comparisons, and the development of reference materials.
Research collaboration between KRISS and LGC continued steadily. In April 2024, researchers from KRISS’s Division of Biomedical Metrology visited LGC to discuss collaboration agendas, project development, and the signing of an MOU, leading to the successful renewal of the agreement.

The two institutions discussed joint research in the fields of advanced bio and biomaterials measurement. They plan to invite an LGC researcher later this year to collaborate on nucleic acid measurement standards. This MOU and the upcoming researcher invitations are expected to further strengthen the research collaboration between the two institutions in the chemical and biotechnology fields.
