The 2024 GMA Global Training Program was held at KRISS from September 23 to October 2. This year’s theme was "Metrology in Analytical Chemistry," and the program included both technical lectures and practical experiments.

This group training included a total of 16 trainees from 13 countries, primarily developing countries, including 8 countries from Asia, 3 from Africa, and 2 from Europe, and featured participation from 14 instructors from both within and outside KRISS.

The GMA Global Training Program 2024 commenced with an opening address by KRISS President Ho Seong Lee, followed by welcoming remarks from Sook-Kyung Kim, Director of the KRISS Academy Center. In his speech, President Lee emphasized KRISS's commitment to human resource development in the field of metrology as the national measurement standards institution. He noted, "KRISS places great importance on fostering talent in metrology and operates various educational programs," and added, "I hope this program will offer participants and instructors a valuable opportunity for active communication, knowledge exchange, and feedback, enabling the effective acquisition of in-depth skills and expertise."

South Korea is the only nation in the world to transition from a recipient to a donor country. Through KRISS’s Global Metrology Academy (GMA), KRISS aims to share South Korea’s experience and knowledge in measurement standards and science and technology, which have been foundational to its development, with developing countries to foster global measurement specialists.

Since its establishment 10 years ago, KRISS GMA has gained significant recognition within the global metrology community for its high-quality programs. Since 2013, it has produced 284 group course graduates from 46 countries and 47 individual course graduates from 16 countries.

Since the inauguration of President Ho Seong Lee, KRISS GMA has been expanded as the KRISS Academy. Moving forward, it will further enhance its support for measurement infrastructure development in developing countries. Starting next year, KRISS experts will travel directly to these countries, offering tailored technical guidance and training programs designed to address specific local needs.

KRISS will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year. KRISS plans to actively share its accumulated experience and expertise with developing countries, thereby enhancing its standing within the global measurement standards community.
