KRISS held a signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding with the Republic of Korea Navy on August 9th at KRISS to promote the development of defense quantum science and technology. The two organizations plan to work together in the field of quantum science and technology aims to accelerate the development of Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA).
The main points of the memorandum of understanding include enhancing collaboration through academic exchanges, talent development, and technology exchange to advance the field of quantum science and technology.
The signing ceremony was attended from both organizations, including Jae Hyuk Choi, Director of the Defense Quantum Center at KRISS, and Kwang Seop Kwak, Director of Planning and Management at the Navy Headquarters.
The two organizations have committed to the following: △ enhancing the education and exchange of expert personnel, △ providing technology and policy advisory services, and △ supporting and collaborating on research in the field of defense quantum science and technology. In particular, they plan to expand cooperation and exchange in cutting-edge technology areas, such as atomic gravimeters, quantum sensors, and quantum encryption, which can be utilized as 'game-changing’ weapon systems for future naval vessels and aircraft.
In January, the KRISS established the Defense Quantum Center. This center aims to research and develop next-generation quantum technologies for national defense that surpass classical technological limits and to train specialized personnel in this field.
Director Jae Hyuk Choi, stated that the memorandum of understanding would serve as a crucial opportunity to secure advanced capabilities for Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) across the Korean Peninsula through KRISS's leading quantum science and technology expertise.
