KRISS Receives ISO 45001 Certificate

KRISS received the ISO 45001 certificate at the certificate handover ceremony on September 8.

ISO 45001 is an ISO standard for management systems of occupational health and safety, and specifies requirements for systematic management of occupational safety by minimizing work-related risks.

The certificate is awarded to organizations that meet requirements in occupational health and safety based on a comprehensive review by a professional certification body.

KRISS received the certificate in recognition of its efforts to create safe working conditions for employees based on safety-oriented management.

Earning the ISO 45001 certification was set as a key agenda item by the Office of Safety & Security as of January. The Office worked towards this goal by:　△identifying objectives of occupational health and safety, △documenting responsibilities of safety managers and response procedures, and △conducting a risk assessment for the entire institute.

Yeong-Jae Park, head of Office of Safety & Security, said, “Despite facing difficulties in developing the safety management manual and enacting related rules, we managed to earn the certificate thanks to the cooperation of various departments.”

The Office of Safety & Security will establish detailed guidelines in support of ISO 45001, and conduct regular inspections to ensure that the institute continues to meet requirements.

Hyun-Min Park, president of KRISS, said, “Government-funded research institutes and other public organizations are expected to meet higher safety expectations. With the ISO 45001 certificate, KRISS has enhanced the level of trust in occupational health and safety. We will continue to do our part in promoting a safe working culture.”
