Acoustics, Ultrasound and Vibration Metrology Group
The Acoustics, Ultrasound and Vibration Metrology Group develops and disseminates measurement standards and applied technology related to acoustics and vibration with the goal of establishing national infrastructure and strengthening competitiveness. The team conducts research that spans over a wide area of fields, from the establishment of national standards related to acoustics & vibration, and the development of signal processing technologies for advanced industries.

Recent R&D Highlights
- Establishment of the primary standard system based on the optical method for free-field sound (Expanded uncertainty ≤ 0.5 dB @ 0.5-20 kHz)
- Development of the deep-learning based data acquisition and synthesis method for the real time localization of voice by drone
- Establishment of the primary standard calibration system of low shock acceleration (Acceleration range: 100 ㎨ – 5,000 ㎨, Expanded uncertanty: 1.1 %)
- Development of the long-stroke horizontal excitation system for the extremely low frequency range of linear vibration (Maximum stroke 1,400 mm, low frequency bound 0.01 Hz)
- Development of the measurement method of phase velocity/absorption for micro scale elastic material

Ultrasound Standards Team
The Ultrasound Standards Team works to expand upon and improve the precision of the measurement range for ultrasound-related physical quantities that are used in multiple sectors including basic science, the industry, health care, and national defense. This maximizes the measurement capabilities for such quantities and enables the establishment of future ultrasound measurement standards. The team also conducts research to develop new measurement technology to meet future industrial demands.
