Dec. 1975   The Korea Standards Research Institute (KSRI) was established as the central authority of the national standards system of Korea.
 
 
May. 1979   The national calibration services were initiated.
 
 
Oct. 1980   It was stipulated in the Constitution of the Republic of Korea that, ˇ°The State shall establish a National Standards System.ˇ±
 
 
Oct. 1988   KSRI became a member of three consultative committees of CIPM: CCL (Length); CCT (Thermometry); and CCPR (Photometry and Radiometry).
 
Oct. 1991   KSRI was renamed into the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS).
 
 
Oct. 1992   KRISS became a member of another three consultative committees of CIPM: CCTF (Time and Frequency); CCEM (Electricity and Magnetism); and CCM (Mass and related quantities).
 
 
Sept. 1994   KRISS became one of the founder members of CCQM (Amount of substance), a newly established consultative committee of CIPM.
 
 
Sept. 1997   KRISS became a member of CCRI (Ionizing Radiation).
 
Feb. 1999   KRISS was officially designated as the National Metrology Institute (NMI) of Korea by the ˇ°Framework Act on National Standards.ˇ±
 
 
Mar. 1999   KRISS became affiliated to the Korea Research Council of Public Science and Technology (KORP) under the Office of Prime Minister.
 
 
Oct. 1999   KRISS became a member of CCAUV (Acoustics, Ultrasound and Vibration).
 
 
Jun. 2003   Operating units of KRISS were reorganized into 4 Divisions and 2 Centers: Division of Physical Metrology; Electromagnetic Metrology; Optical Metrology; Chemical Metrology and Materials Evaluation; Center for Environment and Safety Measurement; and Center for Metrology Service.
 
 
Jun. 2006   Operating units of KRISS were reorganized into 3 Divisions for R&D and 3 Divisions for Service and Management: Division of Physical Metrology; Division of Quality of Life; Division of Advanced Technology; Division of Standards Services; and Division of Knowledge Resources Management; and Division of Management Services
 
 
Mar. 2008   KRISS became affiliated to the Korea Research Council of Fundamental Science and Technology (KRCF), under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST).
 
 
Jan. 2009   Operating units of KRISS were reorganized into 4 Divisions for R&D, 1 Division for Policy & Communication and 3 Divisions for Service & Management: Division of Physical Metrology; Division for Quality of Life; Division of Industrial Metrology; Division of Convergence Technology; Division of Policy and Communication; Division of Technology Services; Divisions of Planning and Coordination; and, Division of Management Services.
